Coming up with a mascot for a key industrial player in the UAE like YES Machinery felt like an almost surreal creative task. YES Machinery is a leading industrial solutions provider across the Middle East. According to YES Machinery, their objective is to introduce and promote world-class machines and innovations in the Middle East market.
As for the mission, they wanted to help businesses achieve clarity in their thoughts and turn them into realities. They also guide in identifying the right solutions for businesses, making them both practical and affordable. With a strong and well-trained service team, they ensure every solution delivered is reliable, effective, and consistently meets expectations from the client’s side.
Client Challenge
YES Machinery, being one of the key industrial players in the UAE, came up with its own challenges in the making of a mascot that served as an all-purpose brand representative. Firstly, their primary logo, or a brand identification sign, was a box—yes, a box. By enclosing "YES" inside a defined shape, the brand creates a visual element that stays recognisable even without the full company name.
The font is bold, uppercase, and sans-serif. Which is a deliberate choice because it communicates strength, clarity, and confidence. The green box immediately captures attention, while the black typography provides balance and authority.
The logo doesn’t try to be aggressive or overly mechanical. Instead, it represents a company that delivers smart, reliable, and practical industrial solutions. With that level of recognisability already secured, now YES Machinery wanted a mascot for their brand. This was ambitious—they wanted something novel, a friend-like digital companion to their clients, an industrial expert friend just outside of a call.
Our Objective
They needed a mascot, and coming up with an idea that encapsulated YES Machinery's brand was no easy task. This is a company that goes back years in the Middle East. It had to be new, authentic and simple.
Our Approach
Coming up with a mascot isn’t as easy as it may seem. It couldn’t obviously be a human, because then it would have to move a lot on in video branding materials. Also, a human mascot for an industrial powerhouse doesn’t feel like the right choice. But without the human element, the brand could risk losing relatability. But our greatest creative revelation was this: the idea was to feel human, not to be exactly one.
Design
Inception
The design had to be sensible. Since the human figure was out of the picture, we dived into what YES actually is: a company that supplies machinery and industrial solutions to businesses across the Middle East. The Middle East is basically a desert, and the desert has created some of the most incredible folklores to date, one of them being the tales around the genie that comes out of a lamb. This thought marked our first shift in the right direction.
Development
The obvious parallels to the genie was an unexpected turn, but it paved the way for landing on the idea of a modern industrial genie. A robot in its appearance and a genie out of a lamb in feel and essence—that was the idea we eventually landed on.
There were also pop culture references, such as the robot from the movie, Wall-E. A robot that appears on command, ready to help you in any way possible—just like YES Machinery. That’s how the idea of Neo came into existence. And the name ‘Neo’, obviously represented a modern, sci-fi element and relatability.
Execution
Neo didn’t just represent the brand; it rather reimagined their scope into a much more larger industrial guide. And that’s exactly what YES was trying to achieve as well. With their reputation as an industrial key player and now the brand-new mascot, YES Machinery was able to compartmentalise their brand voice into a much more sophisticated, novel outlook. With their existing logo as a box, the Neo mascot was imagined as basically a box with mechanical limbs that can be stretched outside of it or shrunk into it.
Client Testimony
Here are some nice words from our client: Mr Basanth Raghavan Managing Director - YES Machinery
“We have a great business relationship with BigLeap. A dynamic animation studio driven by creative minds that bring your ideas and vision to life. Absolutely impressed by their animation services, they've done a fantastic job in redesigning our website and especially the brilliant mascot."
Conclusion
Our design and animation experts at Big Leap often mention how a creative process can be unpredictable and uncertain about the outcome, while also admitting that is the most thrilling part about getting into one.
The creation of ‘Neo’ was definitely a worthwhile creative pursuit for us. From understanding what their primary logo represented and then reimagining the whole concept in reference to folklore, modern sci-fi and pop-culture references, we were able to maintain a strict brand layout and work around that one core idea.
Every work teaches us something. With YES Machinery, it was finding out what really mattered and giving it thought before getting into a concept. When the thought process aligns with the client’s requirements, the design manifests itself
